Following the best tradition of the Renaissance and the age of Enlightenment, a
Thematic Event
of the World Summit on the Information Society
is proposed that would gather Scientists, Scholars, Artists,
Governements Representatives, Diplomats, Civil Society Activists
as well as the general public to debate
about the challenges of
communicating Arts and Sciences content within the Information Society, and in particular
what are the impacts and benefits of the new computer technologies.
Concerning
Access to Scientific knowledge, the event is going to focus on two aspects :
Open Access to scientific litterature and data, Open Access to online courses
The question of Access to Arts and the Humanities is
going to be discussed not only
in terms of Open Access to academic litterture and courses in those fields,
but also concerning the access to the artists, in particular
concerning Digital Arts, the
Arts that are born from
the technological evolution that allows the very existence of
the Information Society, and which are by essence the expression of
the new world that is being built.
Are going to be also discussed selected issues concerning the technological and software
context as well as the legal context
that should allow the Information Society to evolve towards
a Knowledge Society of Shared Knowledge.
This event is organized as as a combined
follow-up of the Scientific Conference
Foundation of Information Science
( ENSTA, 4-7 July 2005 )
and the
SIANA 2005 :
Semaine internationale des arts numériques et alternatifs (
INT, 9 - 15 Avril 2005 ).
Digital Artworks will be on display at ENSTA during all the week ( 4-10 July 2005 )
while live and dynamic presentations are going to start on Friday July 8.
This event is free and open to all.
You are kindly invited to register to be included in our mailing list and to
benefit from discounted fees.
Participation fees will be charged to attend the
gala party on
Thursday, 7 July, evening.

The timeframe is quite constrained, because the very idea of a
"follow up" of the FIS2005 conference, within the context of the
WSIS and with the joint participation of
artists ( who incite us )
came to our mind only after SIANA'2005.
The need for an opening towards a larger audience appeared obvious and urgent
to us after what we heard, within the public,
at the first
European Research & Innovation Exhibition
that was held from 3 to 5 June, at the "Porte de Versailles",
just nearby ENSTA.
Aonther constraint was that if one wants to contribute to the WSIS,
through the means of recommendations,
it should be done before
PrepCom3 which is to held on September 19-30.
